Privacy notice

This website uses no cookies or advertising. Visitor statistics are collected using a self-managed Matomo installation. PROJECT: WATCHER only shares pseudonymous game telemetry if you choose to give your consent.

Who is responsible?

This website is managed by Michel Mahieu, trading as Mahieu · digital innovation (Agima 7 Holding B.V.). For any privacy questions, contact me directly at mwd@mahieu.nl.

Contact form and email

When you complete the contact form, I process the details you provide: your name, email address, organisation if supplied, selected subject and message. I use these only to respond to your enquiry and arrange any follow-up. The legal basis is taking contractual or pre-contractual steps at your request, or my legitimate interest in responding to your message.

Your message is delivered to me by email. A copy is also kept in a protected log outside the publicly accessible website as a fallback if email delivery fails. I retain correspondence for no more than two years after the last contact, and fallback logs for no more than twelve months. Your details are not shared with third parties or used for marketing. You will not receive a newsletter.

Server logs and visitor statistics

The server keeps technical logs containing your IP address, the time of access, the page requested and browser information. I use these for security, technical administration and counts of page requests. The logs are deleted after fourteen days.

Matomo records pages visited, visit duration, device category, referring website, approximate country and region, download clicks and successful contact submissions. IP addresses are truncated. Form contents and URL query parameters are not sent. I use this information to improve the website, not for advertising or profiling across websites. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in improving the website. Detailed data is retained for no more than two years and aggregated reports for no more than three years.

You can disable this measurement for your browser below. The website also respects your browser’s Do Not Track setting.

PROJECT: WATCHER game telemetry

In PROJECT: WATCHER, you can choose to enable Help improve the game in the settings. This is off by default. Only when enabled does the game send pseudonymous events, such as the seed played, difficulty, tiles involved in building or absorbing, transfers, exposure, energy loss, emergency phases and the completion or abandonment of a landscape. These events allow route patterns within a game run to be analysed. No name, email address, account or free-text input is requested.

Your IP address is not stored in the telemetry database. A network key that changes daily and cannot be reversed is used for up to 48 hours to limit abuse. Your browser stores a random session key locally, so disabling telemetry can delete the associated raw events. Unless consent is withdrawn, raw events are retained for no more than 90 days. After that, only daily totals that cannot be linked to a session remain. Processing takes place on my own server and is based on your consent.

Cookies and local storage

This website sets no cookies. It has no advertising trackers or social media buttons that monitor your activity. Local browser storage is used for your visitor statistics preference, game settings, campaign progress and, if you consent, PROJECT: WATCHER’s pseudonymous telemetry key.

Hosting and security

The website runs on my own server in a Dutch data centre (LeaseWeb Netherlands B.V.). All traffic is encrypted using HTTPS. Your data does not leave the European Economic Area.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

  • access the personal data I process about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data deleted;
  • restrict processing;
  • object to processing;
  • receive your data in a transferable format (data portability).

Send your request to mwd@mahieu.nl; I will respond within one month. If you believe I have not handled your data properly, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
